PRIMARY SUNDAY SUGGESTIONS
MAY 17, 2020
FROM ERIN SORENSEN

Hello Everyone,

We hope you are all doing well. Please see below for this week's Sunday Suggestions. Please let us know if you have any questions or would like to contribute in some way.

SUNDAY SUGGESTIONS

  • I CAN SERVE OTHERS. Alma fled from the servants of King Noah, repented of his sins and iniquities, and went about privately teaching the words of Abinadi. Many gathered to hear Alma preach as he hid by a fountain of pure water in a place called Mormon. One of the many important things that Alma shared was that if we desire to be good, we should be like Jesus and serve others by comforting them and helping lighten their burdens. How can you "comfort those that stand in need of comfort" during this pandemic? There are many ways to serve from home, brainstorm with your children and make a goal to serve others from home this week. (It's never too late to join our primary service project where we write to the elderly members of our wards, click here for more information)

  • WHEN WE ARE BAPTIZED WE MAKE A PROMISE WITH GOD. Alma also said that if you have a desire to serve God then you should be baptized. Parents, in your own words, explain some of the things you promised to do when you were baptized. Tell your child/ren about your baptism and how you felt. When we are baptized God also makes promises with us. Ask your child/ren if they know what any of those promises are. Share with them from Mosiah 18: 9-10.

  • GOD CAN MAKE MY BURDENS LIGHT. Feel free to share this object lesson: Fill a bag with heavy objects (to represent burdens), and invite your child to hold the bag. Explain that when we are sad, sick, or have other troubles, it can feel like carrying something heavy. Invite the children to take turns helping the child carry the bag so that it becomes lighter. Explain that Heavenly Father can make our burdens lighter when we seek His help through prayer, serving others, and so on. Watch this video about when you're feeling low and your days are difficult, remember that the Savior hears the songs you cannot sing. Don't give up. Believe in yourself and believe in Him.

  • MUSIC. Have your children watch this video of Sloane and Maxwell sing "I Am a Child of God". Have them sing along and see if they can remember all the verses! View the video here and scroll to the Primary Video section.

Sending love and blessings to you all!
